Phil needed a shed and a retainer wall for his Pullenvale property, but the steep terrain made things tricky. A standard shed wouldn’t work because the uneven ground would leave it sitting off-balance. That would make access from the driveway hard. He needed a smart solution that gave him secure storage and matched the look of the property. With a ride-on mower, work ute, and tools to store, the shed had to be practical and easy to reach. It also needed to stand the test of time. The right retainer wall made that possible by creating a level base. Now, the space is functional and fits neatly into the landscape.

General Flashings
Building a shed and retainer wall on Phil’s steep property took careful planning and the right approach. He had plenty of gear to store, including a ride-on mower, a work ute, and essential tools. The shed needed to be wide enough for easy access but still fit comfortably on the block. Without proper prep, the shed would sit unevenly and be hard to reach. The team cut into the slope to create a stable, level foundation. This made sure the shed could sit securely and function well. By lining it up with the driveway, Phil can now drive in and out with ease. The result is a space that’s practical, sturdy, and simple to use.

Debret handled everything from earthworks to final construction, so Phil didn’t have to deal with multiple contractors. To start, the team excavated and levelled the site, cutting back the land and making sure water could drain properly. Next, they installed a 2.5 metre high reinforced block retainer wall to create a strong base. This step helped prevent shifting and erosion over time. Once the ground was ready, Debret moved on to the shed. They built an 8 metre by 9 metre gable shed with a high 25 degree roof for added strength and durability. Then, they positioned the shed neatly within the retainer wall, which made it easy to access and helped it blend in with the property. In the end, Phil got a practical, well-built space that looked like it had always been part of the land.
Phil wanted storage and easy access, so we designed his shed and retainer wall with that in mind. We added a double PA door on the side, giving him a simple walk-in entry from the house. At the front, we installed a large roller door so he could move the ride-on mower and work ute in and out with ease. We also included skylights to let in natural light and cut down on the need for artificial lighting. To finish it off, we engineered the retainer wall with proper drainage to stop water from pooling or running off into the yard.

Phil wanted more than just a functional shed. He needed one that fit seamlessly into his property. The COLORBOND® Surfmist® walls and Woodland Grey® roof were chosen to match the driveway and complement the home, creating a cohesive look. The high pitched 25 degree roof added character, making the shed a standout feature rather than just another structure. Positioned neatly within the retainer wall, it looks well planned and intentionally built as you drive up the driveway.
